Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to inform you of a pilot project that Dance for Life are hoping to set up based on exploring heritage through dance.
Dance for Life are a project run by Bradford Council that aims to promote healthy living through dance based activities. The heritage project that we’re planning on setting up would allow the participants to partake in a couple of dance sessions that allow them to explore their own cultural heritage through dance. We want to involve all the different cultural based organisations within the Bradford area and want to know if this is something that you feel your organisation may wish to be a part of.
The dance sessions would be led by myself and would involve a simple movement sequence being taught to the participants. Then when this is learnt the participants would then be encouraged to further develop the sequence creatively by adding movements that are related to or come from their heritage, for example traditional dance styles.
The sessions will last for approximately 45mins to an hour and can be aimed at all ages, children, teenagers, young people, adults and the elderly. It can be decided within your organisation as to which age group will be most interested in it and so who takes part. If there is a large interest from a lot of people of varying ages then more than one session can be held to ensure that everyone can take part.
The short-term aims of this project are to establish relationships between the different community groups and Dance for Life. Informing the organisations of the services that we offer and how we can be of use to your organisation. Also the movement sessions will increase health awareness and build up strong relationships within the participants and work to strengthen your organisations cultural identity.
If the project is successful and there is a high level of interest from various different groups across the Bradford area then we hope to work towards holding further sessions, creating pieces for performance involving all the organisations together and eventually make a Lottery Heritage Bid (Lottery Heritage Funds sustain and transform our heritage by investing in diversity) to continue and further develop the work started.
Dance for Life wants to work towards creating Community Cohesion, by bringing groups within Bradford together whilst also allowing each group to express and explore their individuality and cultural identity.
If this is something that you feel may benefit your organisation then please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss this further, answer any questions you may have or to set-up the initial dance sessions.
Thank you for your time
Yours sincerely
Emma Bolland
